The information included in the handbook below will answer many of your questions about the school. All policies and regulations of the school are made with the safety and welfare of the children in mind. The office staff will be able to answer many of your questions. Your child's teacher is your first source of information regarding your child's academic achievement and social adjustment. Please contact the office regarding any other concerns.

Explanation of the Red/Black Schedule at HES

Herndon Elementary School will be instituting a Red/Black schedule in grades 3-6 this year. In the Red/Black schedule students will spend the entire day with the same teacher/class. Students will work on Language Arts/Social Studiss on one day and Math/Science on the opposite day.

Tuesdays and Thursdays will be Red days.
Wednesdays and Fridays will be Black days.
Mondays will rotate between Red and Black days.

A Note About Notes

When a student plans to go home with another student, the office must have notes from the parents of BOTH students. This applies to car riders, walkers, and bus riders. Coaches, scout leaders, and other after school function sponsors are not authorized to contact the school and request changes in after school plans. Notes can either be sent with the students and given to either the office staff or the teachers or you can click here to send an email

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Advanced Academic Programs provide challenging learning experiences that are designed to meet the unique learning profile of a broad range of advanced learners.

SACC PROGRAM

School Age Child Care is a Fairfax County Office for Children program for children attending elementary school. The program accommodates families in which all adults in the home are working, attending school, or are disabled. The program provides professional care for children attending kindergarten through sixth grade, and is offered at most elementary schools. Fees are based on gross household income.

SACC operates school year, summer, winter, and spring programs. During the school year, children may enroll in separate sessions.
