2008-09 Kindergarten Orientation
Do you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 30, 2008? If so-----please make sure you attend kindergarten orientation on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 7pm in the Herndon Elementary cafeteria! This night is for parents to learn about the FCPS kindergarten curriculum, meet selected staff members that work with our kindergarten program, and answer any questions you may have. (Children will have an opportunity to meet their teacher and see their classroom in August before school starts!) We will NOT be registering that night as we have in the past as that makes for a very long evening. |
2008-09 Kindergarten Registration
We will start registration for kindergarten on Monday, April 21, 2008 but please call for an appointment with our registrar, Moira Doherty, at 703-326-3110 so you won’t have to wait. For those parents unable to register during our normal business hours of 8am-4:30pm------we will have two evening registration sessions on Thursday, April 24 and Wednesday, May 7 from 5:30-7:30pm in the school office. We suggest you call for an appointment also for the best possible service. |
SOL Tests
SOL Testing for grades 3-6 begins on May 19 and continues through May 30. During this time it is important the children get a good night’s rest and have a nutritious breakfast before arriving to school. |
Every three years, the Commonwealth of Virginia requires all school districts to conduct a census of their residents. The census data are used to help determine equitable distribution of the portion of the state sales tax revenues designated to support public education programs. Open House
Parents and students are invited to attend our Open House on Thursday, August 28, 2008. This is a great opportunity to see the classrooms and to meet the teachers. Kindergarten Open House will be from 10-11am, and grades 1-6 are invited to come between 3-4pm. The cafeteria will be open to receive checks for lunches and the clinic will be available to receive medications.
First Day of School
School will resume on Tuesday, September 2. Our school hours are 9:15am – 1:25pm on Mondays, and 9:15am-3:55pm Tuesday – Friday, all grades.
Back to School Night
Our Back to School Night is scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2008 at 7 p.m. Please plan on joining us for this evening activity.
