6th Grade

The Fairfax County 6th grade science curriculum includes material related to the study of our solar system. This study is aided by a trip to the planetarium, in which a show designed to reinforce learning about the following subjects is presented:

• Solar system objects including the Earth, Moon, other planets and their moons, meteors, asteroids, and comets;
• The relative size of and distance between planets;
• The effects of gravitation;
• The cause of the day/night cycle and the phases of the Moon;
• Properties of the Earth;
• The cause of our seasons;
• The cause of the tides; and
• The history and technology of space exploration
