Recently the Skills USA club competed in the District 14 Championships. Hayfield had many strong competitors and won several events which included:  

 

Automotive Service Technology: Ryan Hunt - Silver Medal

 

Motorcycle Service Technology: Michael Strausser - Gold Medal

John Erbe - Silver Medal, Ryan Hunt - Bronze Medal

 

Automotive Maintenance: Doug Roth -  Gold Medal

 

Related Technical Math: Andrew Chang  - Gold Medal

 

Hayfield was well represented among the 1400 entries at the 2007 Northern Virginia Regional Scholastic Arts Competition.  Student winners included Justin Lafreniere, a Gold Key Award for his Computer Art Portfolio; Page Bailey, Vivian Eckerberg, and Gyuhyeon “Kathy” Sow,   Certificates of Merit for their Art Portfolios.  Gyuhyeon Sow was also awarded a Silver Key for her drawing “Oops.”  Their art teachers are Nancy Hannans and Sallye Mahan-Cox.  Christine Nguyen, whose art teacher is Sonja Rossow, won a Certificate of Merit for her drawing “City Scape” in the Middle School division of the competition.  The Scholastic Arts Competition is a national art competition which culminates in a show of national Gold Key winners at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC which is the next step for Justin Lafreniere.   The Northern Virginia Regional Scholastic Arts Competition show of Gold Key winners can be seen February 2 -15 at the Ernst Community Cultural Center of the NOVA  Annandale Campus.  The awards ceremony is Tuesday, Feb., 13 at 7:30 pm at the Ernst Center.

 

Dr. Bill Oehrlein has been selected Middle School Principal of the year for Commonwealth of Virginia by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Dr. Oehrlein will now be considered in the national competition for Middle School Principal of the Year.
