Congratulations to Nabil Hassein who has advanced as a Finalist in the 2007 competition for Achievement Scholarship Awards.  This is a rigorous national academic competition for scholarship funds.

 

Recently, Skills USA held its District 14 Competition where Margaret Mata, a junior in cosmetology, was awarded a silver metal by giving a speech on leadership and professionalism. Skills USA is a national organization combining all of the Trade and Industrial  courses offered across the United States.

 

Hayfield students recently competed in the Patriot District DECA competition.  DECA teaches students skills in leadership, community service, skill assessment and academic skill development.  At the competition Jasmyne Dozier placed 3rd overall in the Fundamentals of Communication event, while Courtney Warren placed 2nd in the Emotional Intelligence Marketing Management event.  Ciara Hall placed 3rd in the Economic Business Services event and 3rd in the Communications Business Services event and placed 3rd overall in the Business Services Marketing event. 

Michael Grunewald placed 2nd in the Comprehensive Occupational Exam in the Retail Merchandising category.  Aly Chagnon, Olivia Miller, and Natalia Melger also competed in the District Competition.

The Hayfield Science Olympiad team placed first in three events at the “McLean Science Olympiad Regional” competition. The first place categories and winners were: Ecology (Kelsey O’Hara and Elena Tenore), Entomology (Cole Eskridge and Michele Baca), Forensics (Cole Eskridge and Josh Trebach). Hayfield also placed 4th place in Health Science (Samantha Dodbele and Sanah Baig) and Oceanography(Elena Tenore and Michelle Baca), 5th in Physics Lab (Josh Trebach and Michelle Baca) and 6th place in Astronomy (Elena Tenore and Samantha Dodbele) and Disease Detectives (Cole Eskridge and Samantha Dodbele).

 

The Forensics Team led by coaches Meghan Nugent and Brendan Harris finished second at the Patriot District Tournament. Individual speakers who qualified for the Regional Tournament include: Katie Zitz and Ariel Shine -- 1st place, Duo Interpretation of Literature; Mark Rascati and Marcus Clarke -- 2nd place, Duo Interpretation of Literature; Conler Mandt -- 1st place, Humorous Dramatic Interpretation of Literature; Kate Drakeley -- 2nd place, Storytelling
