Junior Abebe Kebede has been selected by Congressman William Lacy (D-MO), for whom he interned this past summer, to join the Congressional Page Program during the spring semester.  Interns are required to have at least a 3.0, attend school each morning in the Library of Congress, and attend to their Congressional duties in the afternoons.  Kebede’s work will include delivery of correspondence, legislative material, and small packages within the U.S Capitol. Kebede is currently the overall SGA vice-president of Hayfield and the assistant editor of the school’s newsmagazine.

The middle school math team, lead by Doris Applegate, Penny Thompson and Jenni Lawhon, has not only tripled its membership in the last year, but finished third in the recent Fairfax County Middle School Math League Contest. John McCrea, David Lichtman, Julian Whitman, Bryan DeRosario, Jacob Brisson, Juilan Do, Lauren Kirkland, and Natalie McConnell all had perfect scores.

The 2005-2006 H2Newsmagazine sponsored by Margie Craig will be awarded a “Crown Award” from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association at its national convention at Columbia University in March.  This is the first time Hayfield has ever won this award and is one of only 61 newspaper/newsmagazines nationwide being recognized.
