Hayfield’s middle school students are on a reading binge! Leading the way are Daniel Halse who has read 4,263 pages and Katelyn Thomas has succeeded in covering 2,110 pages during the second quarter.  During this time span most eighth grade students have read between 500-1000 pages.

 

Hayfield’s Middle School Counseling Department presented “Sexual Harassment and Bullying 101” at the Virginia School Counselors Association’s Annual Conference in Richmond. Pat McIntosh, Director of Student Services, Noelle Wolter, Lead Counselor, Paula Smith-Adams and Anna Brussel, counselors, presented the hour long presentation to 90 counselors from around the state of Virginia.  The talk featured an adaptation of the required annual FCPS sexual harassment and bullying program that is presented to all seventh and eighth grade students.  Pat McIntosh and Noelle Wolter also presented “Moving to the Middle, A Transition Program That Works.”

 

The Hayfield Army JROTC led by Colonel Joe Spicer earned the Best JROTC Marching Unit trophy at the “36th Annual St Patrick’s Day Parade” in Washington, DC.  This was the first off-campus, public parade the unit has participated in.

 

Hayfield Automotive Technology, led by Greg Payne, has once again qualified for the Ford/AAA state finals, the only Fairfax County school to do so. Hayfield is now ranked number two in the state.

 

Everyone of Hayfield’s advanced placement (A.P.) social studies teachers were chosen to grade A.P. exams this coming June. Hayfield is the only FCPS school in the county to achieve such a status. The teachers are Ginny Balsam in psychology; Lynne Dubin and Dena Soled in US history, and Monte Bourjaily, Ken Halla and Jihoon Shin in US government.
