Technology in Our School
What happens with Mrs. Snyder in the Computer Lab?
Thanks to the generosity of the Hayfield PTA, participation in the Giant receipts program, and the fabulous success of our Silent Auctions, our school is constantly updating and increasing our technology inventory. We have been able to add SMARTBoards to all general education classes for grades K-6. Each SMARTBoard station is equipped with a projector and a presentation cart. These teachers are able to present hi-tech lessons using SMARTBoards in their classrooms. The computer lab is furnished with 30 PCs, and a SMARTBoard station. We have four 16- station Dell laptop mobile labs, a 32- station Netbook cart, three scanners, multiple color LaserJet printers, school-wide wireless Internet access, VCRs in every classroom, six digital cameras, a digital camera classroom set and a wide variety of student friendly software. Each classroom (K-6) has a minimum of four student computers with Internet access. In 2003-2004, FCPS launched a laptop initiative for all K-6 teachers, reading specialists, and special education teachers. Each teacher received a Dell Latitude D600. These have been upgraded to D630s. The goal of this initiative has been to support teacher collaboration, enhance instruction, expand home-school communication, increase teacher use of electronic resources and tools, and increase student use of electronic resources and tools. In addition, art, music, counseling, and PE teachers received laptops in the fall of 2005.
