Patrol Meetings

Meetings are the first Monday of each month. If this falls on a holiday, we will meet on the following Monday that we are in school.

*You must wear your patrol belt/badge to meetings.

Procedures for Report Notices
  1. Use good judgment when filling out a report.
  2. Fill the report out properly and completely. If not complete with bus driver and/or classroom teacher signature the captain will hand it back to you.
  3. Be sure you properly warn students of their offense. Explain why the behavior is inappropriate or unsafe. Do this in a kind way.
  4. Turn report slips in to Mr. Bawarski’s room as soon as you can. Captains will review report slips weekly and report students who names appear 3 or more times. They review offenses to determine which students need immediate attention of a patrol sponsor.

It is your responsibility to know and understand your duties as a patrol. We expect that you memorize the pledge.

I PROMISE TO DO MY BEST TO:

Report to duty on time.

Perform my duties faithfully.

Strive to prevent accidents, always setting a good example of myself.

Obey my teachers and officers of the patrol.

Report dangerous practices of students.

Strive to earn the respect of fellow students.

hawkHayfield Elementary Safety Patrols

Hayfield Elementary has an outstanding Safety Patrol program. Children in the fifth and sixth grades are eligible to become a patrol. Patrols are expected to lead by example; so good citizenship is a requirement for participation. Each Spring, rising fourth graders and older students who express interest in becoming a patrol begin the application process. Training of accepted patrols usually occurs in early June.

Our Patrols work hard every day to help create a safe environment for our students in and around our school. Patrols are found in the building, in our walking community, at bus stops and on the buses. The bright yellow belt that they wear when they are on duty identifies safety patrols.

Please pass along compliments and complaints to our Safety Patrol sponsors. Thank you for working with the Hayfield Family to ensure the safety of all!

Expectations of Safety Patrols

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Take your job seriously and be proud to have been selected as a patrol.
  2. Accept responsibility without developing a “superior attitude”. Your duty is to help keep your community and peers safe, not to discipline.
  3. Patrols must keep up with their class work and homework responsibilities. Academics always come first.
  4. We encourage our students to be involved in many of our school activities. Keep in mind, you have committed to our patrol program and we expect your attendance and leadership in and out of the classroom. Therefore, if you experience a significant drop in grades, behavior, or attendance your classroom teacher or faculty member will contact the sponsors and request a conference to determine a solution.
  5. You must be courteous and respectful to students, and all adults. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
  6. Be alert on your post.
  7. Perform your duty to the best of your ability.
  8. Be on time to your post. If for any reason you cannot be at your post, please contact your patrol sponsors.

.

Reasons For A Reprimand
  1. Irresponsible or rude behavior reported by parents, teachers, bus drivers, or students.
  2. Use of inappropriate language.
  3. Being late to your post.
  4. Loss of a belt or badge. This carries a fine of $1.00 for each piece.
  5. Referral by a teacher for incomplete work or a significant drop in academic performance.

First offense: Verbal warning from sponsor
Second offense: Written notice or a phone call home to parent
Third offense: Belt removal and two-week probation from the patrol force.

Within the two-week probationary period, if you prove to your teacher, bus driver, or patrol sponsors that you are ready to take on the responsibility again, we may allow you to resume your position.  Yet, if there are reoccurrences after you are reinstated, you will be removed from the Safety Patrol.
