In 1611 Thomas Dale became the leader at Jamestown. He believed
in strict rules. His most important one was if you disobeyed him once you
were whipped. If you disobeyed a second time you were sent to jail. If you
disobeyed a third time you were executed. He also gave the settlers their
own property so they would work harder.
