Lord De La Warr was appointed Governor and Captain General of
the Virginia Colony on his arrival in 1610. He arrived with three hundred
men and more supplies to end the starving time. He returned to England in
1611 because of poor health. He died on a return voyage to Virginia in 1618.
The state of Delaware is named for him.
