Hello Groveton Families,
Take Your Family to School Week is this week April 23rd-27th. Come visit your child's classroom during the week on the days assigned for each grade. Tuesday 24th is FECEP and Kindegarten, Wednesday 25th is 1st and 6th grade, Thursday 26th is 2nd and 5th grade, Friday 27th is 3rd and 4th grade. You are also invited to bring in a healthy lunch to share with your child.
Groveton's Book Fair is also this week, April 23rd-27th. The book fair will be open each day from 9:00-4:00 with extended hours until 8:00 pm on Thursday during Taste of Groveton. Students will be browsing the book fair on Monday and Tuesday to make a list of their choices and bring home an order form (make checks payable to Groveton Elementary) or you can come any day with your child to shop until 4:00. If you have any time to help students "shop" for books please contact our librarian Ms. Mayrides at lmmayrides@fcps.edu.
Come join us at the annual Taste of Groveton being held this Thursday, April 26th from 6:00pm-8:30pm. Groveton families bring a dish to share that represents a taste from your heritage or your favorite food including a halal table. Each dish will be labeled with a tent card to identify ingredients such as contains pork, vegetarian, halal, etc. Dinner will be served (buffet style) from 6:00pm until 7:30pm in the cafeteria with entertainment beginning at 7:30 in the gym. This is a fun family night that always has something for everyone!
Don't miss the last dinner night out fundraiser will be at Chuck E. Cheese on Wednesday, May 9th from 3:00-9:00. Be sure to purchase your tokens at the register and not the machine so that Groveton receives 20% of the sales of this night. Bring your friends and family. See you there!
Teacher & Staff Appreciation is May 7th-11th. The PTA feels that Groveton has been blessed with a gifted and extremely hard working staff who are strongly committed to our children. They are exemplary and we want them to feel treasured. We encourage parents to write a note of appreciation or send a small gift to their child's teacher(s) during this week. If you are looking for gift ideas, many of the teachers are starting to run low on school supplies. Also, if your child has a special relationship with one of our specialty teachers or staff such as gym, music, library, special ed, etc., take the time to let them know they are appreciated too.
The next PTA meeting will be Thursday, May 17th from 6:45 - 8:00. We will be making nominations for the PTA Board positions for next year and voting at the last PTA meeting on June 8th from 6:45 - 8:00. The Board currently is looking to fill the following positions - President, 4 Vice Presidents, Recording Secretary, Title I Representative, Volunteer Coordinator, Membership Chair. If you are interested in joining the Board or know of someone who would be a good candidate, please submit their name to grovetonpta@gmail.com. This will be the last Partners in Print evening for the year. Bring your child and learn fun ways to show your child that reading is fun.
Spring Beautification Day is Saturday, May 19th from 8am-12noon. The gardens are looking beautiful with lots of bright colors and, of course, are in need of weeding and cleaning out. We will also be "reclaiming" the long lost bulb garden located in the front of the school along Harrison Lane. If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation checks should be payable to Groveton PTA. We also would like items such as plants, seeds, stepping stones, bird baths, bird feeders, bird houses, garden cloth, etc. Bottled water will be available and hot dogs/chips will be ready at noon. Bring the family out and lend a hand in keeping Groveton's appearance looking good despite the construction.
Keep collecting your Campbells labels and Boxtops. The final collection deadline is Friday, May 25th. Which classes will receive a mystery party?
SAVE THE DATE! Groveton's Spring Fling will be on Saturday, June 2nd in the afternoon. The times are not determined yet. Fliers will be coming home soon. If you are interested in helping us with this event, please let us know at grovetonpta@gmail.com. We will be in need of lots of volunteers for this event.
The "Pennies for the Playground" fundraiser is underway. As many of you already know, the blacktop playground which was used by the upper grades has been removed with the addition of the new classroom pod out back. Groveton PTA will be meeting with the FCPS Grounds & Facilities people to help decide on a location for a new playground and the types of equipment that are approved to use. We are planning on doing this project in stages as we have the funds available to do so. Collection containers are located in each classroom for change (and bills) to help fund this project so when your child(ren) asks you for money, there is a collection taking place for a good cause. The collection totals are being kept and the grade level with the most money raised will win a "popsicles in the park" party at Groveton Heights Park. So far, the students have raised $424.04 and Groveton PTA has received a donation to match the first collection total of $197 for a total of $621.04 (collection chart attached) This will be an ongoing fundraiser as the project begins and will continue until we finish. The PTA will start a fund, which can be added to at any time as this project goes along. If you are interested in being a part of this planning committee or lend your grant writing experience to Groveton, please contact either grovetonpta@gmail.com or Mr. Pollio at rpollio@fcps.edu.
Groveton T-shirts are still available! Tshirts are available in blue, purple and gold. Tshirts are $10 each - XXL is $11 each. Checks should be made payable to Groveton PTA.
Groveton PTA is a member of the my coke rewards for schools program. This means when you drink any coca-cola products you can go to mycokerewards.com/schools and donate your reward points on either the package or bottle to Groveton. These points will go towards educational supplies for our teachers. A flier for this program will be coming soon
