Important Updates:

Greenbriar West Recognized!
We are
proud to announce that Greenbriar West Elementary was recently recognized as one of only twenty-two FCPS schools meeting the qualifications to receive the 2012 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence.  This award recognizes schools that have met all state and federal achievement benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and have achieved excellence goals for elementary reading.   Congratulations to the students, staff and community of Greenbriar West who live up to our high standards of excellence demonstrating our school motto, Pride in School and Pride in Performance.

Winter Weather Reminder
This week gave us our first taste of winter weather.
FCPS has several schedules set up to deal with inclement weather; these are put into effect when conditions threaten the safety of children who are walking or riding school buses to schools. These schedules are: (1) Keep schools closed. (2) Open two hours late. (3) Close two hours early. The procedures used in school closings are detailed at the inclement weather plans. Parents who have provided an email address as part of their child’s emergency care information will automatically receive delay and cancellation notices from the Keep-In-Touch system. When FCPS cancels all evening events, any meetings, clubs, or other activities are also cancelled. On days that schools have a 2 hour delay, students should not be dropped off prior to 10:45 am. The morning bell will ring at 11:00 am; and students arriving after 11:15 will be marked tardy. No breakfast is served on mornings with 2 hour delay, and a modified lunch schedule will begin at 11:30 am.

Greenbriar West Receives VIP Excellence Award:

Jan., 2011 - Governor Bob McDonnel announced that Greenbriar West Elementary is one of thirty-six Fairfax County public schools who have earned the 2011 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence. The award is the highest honor under the Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) incentive program created by the Board of Education to advance Governor Kaine’s “competence to excellence” agenda to encourage advanced learning and achievement in the Commonwealths public schools. This is the second year Greenbriar West has been honored for their performance.

Greenbriar West Ranks Third in SOL Scores:
The Washington Post recently listed Greenbriar West Third in the metro area when it comes to the number of students who pass the Standards of Learning Tests with advance scores.
