Japanese Sister School announced... On Friday, March 3, 2006, Great Falls Elementary officially welcomed their sister school from Japan, Hiroshima Kake Educational Institution. The signing ceremony was celebrated during a special all-school assembly. In addition to the formal signing, the one hour event featured all 100 Japanese Immersion students. The 6th grade class had the opportunity to show off their Japanese language skills by introducing the Japanese dignitaries, while the 2nd through 5th grade classes - dressed in traditional Japanese Hopi coats - performed a dance to Tokyo Ondo, a traditional Japanese song. The 1st graders lead the school in a Japanese version of head, shoulders, knees and toes. The purpose of the sister school program is to promote cultural understanding, educational development international cooperation and most of all friendship. Click here for pictures from this event.
