What is Reading Recovery?
Reading Recovery is a literacy program designed to help first grade students to become independent readers and writers and meet grade level expectations.
What is the process for selection?
The program has two selection times, one at the beginning of the year and one at mid-year. Selection is based upon teacher recommendation and the Observation Survey. The Observation Survey test includes letter identification, word test, concepts about print(i.e. front of book, pointing to words, left before right page)writing vocabulary, hearing sounds in words.
How is the service provided?
Students in the program receive one-to-one lessons for thirty minutes each day for 12 to 20 weeks. These lessons are in addition to regular classroom instruction. Lessons are designed to build upon the student's strengths and are taught by specially trained teachers. Graham Road currently has two Reading Recovery teachers.
