Graham Road receives $100,000 Grant from Target and the Ellen DeGeneres ShowTarget Corporation with help from The Ellen DeGeneres Show and its viewers, selected 50 schools in need to each receive a $100,000 grant. The $5 million donation from Target to local K-12 schools across the country is part of the company’s commitment to education, which includes plans to give $1 billion for education by the end of 2015. Board of Supervisors Recognize Achievements at Graham RoadThe Board of Supervisors recognized Graham Road Elementary School for being named a Blue Ribbon School by the U. S. Department of Education. Graham Road Receives Blue Ribbon AwardGraham Road earned the honor of becoming a Blue Ribbon School. We were awarded this title from the US Department of Education this year. The two criteria by which our school was selected for the award were (a) being in the top 10% of schools academically in Virginia and (b) having at least 40% of students from low-income household. Just 10 Virginia and 324 U.S. public and private schools will receive this prestigious award this year. Given that there are approximately 132,000 K-12 schools in the country, only .25% of schools (1 quarter of 1 percent) have been found worthy of the Blue Ribbon award.
