Four Levels of GT Services |
Level 1 |
Services for all students – In grades K-5, the GTS models lessons which are connected to the POS and are designed to teach all students higher order thinking skills and develop critical and creative thinking. The Strategies Lab allows students to develop problem-solving strategies, develop creativity and reasoning skills and to encourage students to accept responsibility for their own learning. |
Level 2 |
Services for many students – Differentiated services are offered to students who have specific academic strengths. The GTS collaborates with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction and provide additional challenges within the general education curriculum. |
Level 3 |
Services for some students – Each year, the local GT screening committee screens all students in grades 2-5 for GT services. These students are provided in a full-time academic placement. The lessons, models and strategies used in this classroom are designed to challenge and enrich the Program of Studies in the four core subject areas. (Yung, Fran, and Tracey can give you specific details about the texts, strategies, and curriculum used in the classrooms)
Level 4 |
Services for a few students – These students have been found eligible for a GT center. Eligibility is initiated through the local screening committee; however the final decision for eligibility is determined by the central selection committee
Young Scholars Program |
The Young Scholar model is designed to find and nurture gifted potential in underrepresented students beginning in Kindergarten. The GTS works with classroom teachers to strengthen basic skills, increase background knowledge and to develop gifted potential in young learners. |
