SCA

Membership:
Our Student Council Association (SCA) is very large and active. We have 101 Representatives and Officers and a Faculty Committee which guide us and help us make decisions. This is the second year our SCA has been in existence, and we look forward to continuing the high standards established during our first school year.

Projects:
Our Dolphin Express Food Train will be our first project in mid-November. We will be collecting canned food items and non-perishable goods for Thanksgiving baskets and holiday food closets. This project will benefit our "Helping Hungry Kids" campaign. All items collected will be divided equally between the Army Community Service (ACS), the Salvation Army, and the Lorton Community Action Center.

In December, we hope to have a Giving Tree, and collect items that show the warmth in giving such as gloves, hats, scarves,mittens, etc. Those who donate will put a helping hand ornament on the tree. Items will be donated to the three agencies listed above and perhaps an additional one to be determined.

In February, we sell Candygrams as a fundraiser.

School Spirit:
We are also very involved in promoting school spirit. We will continue to promote our school colors, blue and silver, and our mascot, the Dolphin. We will promote these by having School Spirit Days through out the year. We plan to also have some different school spirit days such as twin day, crazy hat day, backwards day, tacky tie day, etc. But most of the time we will be wearing our school colors. We also plan to have appreciation days for teachers and special staff members.

Ambassadors:
A very important job that the SCA maintains is to welcome new students. Our SCA Alternates act as Student Ambassadors. Each new student will be given a passport, and the Student Ambassador will take the new person around to meet administrators and resource staff and have his or her passport stamped.

Committees:
We have lots of special committees. They include Library, News Media, Fundraisers, Special Events and Appreciation. Each SCA Representative signs up for one of the five committees. We will stay busy working on their activities all year long.
