Chorus, Jennifer.Willard@fcps.edu & Justin.Duff@fcps.edu

Fort Belvoir Elementary School will offer chorus to fifth and sixth grade students as an option for educational, musical, and personal growth. Both fifth and sixth grade choruses will meet for one 40 minute period one afternoon each week during school hours.

All students regardless of musical experience are encouraged to join. Audition is for voice placement only. Voice quality is less important than a sincere desire to sing. Auditions occur on an individual basis. Students will develop basic choral reading and singing skills by performing music in unison, two- and three-part harmony.

Being a member of the chorus is a privilege, not a right. However, every person who chooses to be a member is important to the group. There will be plenty of hard work (and play) in order to produce a musical product of which we all can be proud. We all need to work with a positive attitude and a sense of commitment to the chorus and to the quality of excellence expected at Fort Belvoir School.

Chorus is a team effort and requires a team spirit of commitment. In order to encourage this team spirit, the dress code for performances is: black slacks or skirt, white blouses for girls, and white dress shirts for boys.

Chorus members are required to attend all rehearsals and performances. As with all of the other "pull-out" programs such as band and strings, all students who participate are required to make up any missed classroom work. Chorus members are responsible for all assignments that are given during the time they are out of class. Chorus performances will generally occur in the evening in the school cafeteria. Occasionally the chorus may be invited to perform for special events during the school day, in which case bus transportation will be provided.

6th grade chorus members have the opportunity to audition for Fairfax All-County Chorus. 5th grade chorus members may have the opportunity to audition for All-Virginia Chorus.
