Cell Phones/ Electronic Devices

Students have access to school phones throughout the day.  Urgent messages for students should be called into the main office.  Students Responsibilities and Rights states that, “Use of a portable communication device without express authorization from the principal, possession of any such device in plain view, or possession of any such device that is turned on.  As employed herein, the term, “portable communication device” shall include, but not limited to, any beeper, cell phone, or other similar device that is capable of sending and/or receiving audio, video, picture, electronic-mail, or text messages.  In the event of a violation of this provision, the student shall be subject to disciplinary action hereunder, and the portable communication device used or possessed by the student shall be subject to confiscation by school officials.  Principals may elect to return the portable communication device to the student’s parent/guardian or to return the portable communication device to the student and contact the parent or guardian.

Clinic Click here for clinic information. Contact Health Room Aid at 703-426-5710 for more information.
Communication wtih Teachers

All Frost teachers have access to e-mail. You can find the e-mail addresses by clicking the Staff Directory link.
Although technology makes home/school communication easier, it does not change the fact that teachers have only one 50-minute planning period per day.  Your child’s teachers will make every effort to respond to e-mails and phone calls within 48 hours.  We would like to promise “instant” responses, but the time demands during the teaching day make that impossible.  Please know that we share a common goal: success for your child. Please use http://fcps.blackboard.com to access homework and classroom assignment and to view additional class information.  You are able to email your child’s teacher through FCPS 24/7 Learning as well.

Conferences Please call or email the child's team guidance counselor to schedule a child meeting or parent conference.
Dress Code

This dress code is outlined in Regulation 2613.4. This can be viewed on the FCPS website at http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/0/9371cb32c64784a385256fd200674288/$FILE/R2613.pdf
The following are excerpts from the text of the county policy and regulation:
"All students are expected to dress appropriately for K-12 educational environment.  Any clothing that interferes with or disrupts the educational environment is unacceptable.  Clothing with language or images that are vulgar, discriminatory, or obscene or clothing that promotes illegal or violent conduct, such as the unlawful use of weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco or drug paraphernalia, or clothing that contains threats such as gang symbols is prohibited.  Clothing should fit, be neat and clean, and conform to standards of safety, good taste and decency.  Clothing that exposes cleavage, private parts, the midriff, or undergarments, or that is otherwise sexually provocative, is prohibited.
Examples of prohibited clothing include, but are not limited to: sagging or low-cut pants, low-cut necklines that show cleavage, tube tops, halter tops, backless blouses or blouses with only ties in the back, clothing constructed of see-through materials, and head coverings unless required for religious or medical purposes.
Parents of students requiring accommodation for religious beliefs, disabilities, or other good causes should contact the principal.  Students not complying with this code will be asked to cover the non-complying clothing, change clothes, or go home.  Repeated infractions will result in disciplinary action.”

FCPS 24/7 (Blackboard) Contact Laura Wong or the child's grade level administrator for problems with access or use of a FCPS 24/7 (Blackboard) account.
Fees Please see elective or PE teachers for fees.
  Financial Matters

Fee collection will begin on Wednesday, September 8.  Your student will receive a flyer the first week of school. Please make checks payable to Frost Middle School.  A separate check is needed for each fee.  Please write your child's first and last name and the purpose on the memo line of each check.  (For example, Rachel Lee-Art fee.)  Do not send checks before the first day of school.

  Forgetten Items

Lunches and books may be left at the main office. Students should come between classes to retrieve their items or they will be delivered to them at lunch.  This will eliminate class disruptions.

  Keep In Touch (KIT)

KIT Basic is the automatic enrollment service of KIT for parents of FCPS students. It draws contact information from the student information system.  FCPS central offices and schools use KIT Basic for three types of messages: emergency, attendance, and outreach. It is important that parents keep their child’s emergency contact information up to date with the school. Contact information may also be updated online through weCare@School, a feature of FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard).

L-Z Late Buses

Late buses are provided for after school activities including academic assistance. Buses run on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Late buses leave Frost at approximately 3:30 P.M. on Monday, and 4:30 P.M. on Wednesday and Thursday.  Students are asked to notify their parents in advance if they plan to take the late bus home.

Lost and Found Lost an item? Items can be found on the shelves in the cafeteria (books, coats, binders, etc.) or in the main office (glasses, keys or valuable items).  Items left are donated by the PTA at midyear and at the end of the year. Contact the main office 703-426-5700.
Lunch Cards For questions on adding money or replacing lost lunch cards, please contact our cafeteria manager, Mahnaz Asgharpour at 703-426-5721.
Meals

A debit system similar to the one used at automated teller machines is available for meal purchase.  Most Frost students use this system, eliminating the need to carry cash. Students who received free or reduced lunch fees last year will continue to receive the benefit for at least 10 days while applications are processed.  Fairfax County Public Schools’ Office of Food and Nutrition Services mail applications to parents and guardians in August.

Parent Liaisons Please contact Misuk Hare or Sara Severiano for support in communication between school and home.
Publications For individual publications, see Activities.
Safety

We take your child's safety very seriously.  Behavior expectations will be reviewed with students the first days of school.  Please encourage your child to walk to and from the bus stop/school building with friends.  Students should report any suspicious people or unusual activity to their parents and to the school.  We will make every effort to ensure that trespassers are not permitted on school property.
Students must be under the direct supervision of a staff member if participating in after school activities or if remaining after school for academic assistance.  Children are not permitted to leave the school grounds and return to ride late buses.
Students are not permitted to cross Route 236/Little River Turnpike unless accompanied by an adult.  School bus transportation is provided for all students who live across Route 236/Little River Turnpike.

  School Pictures

School pictures will be taken on Tuesday, October 4, 2011.  Make-up pictures will be taken on Friday, November 18, 2011.

Tardy/Late Arrival School begins promptly at 7:25am. All students late to school must have a parent/guardian-signed note for an excused tardy. For more information regarding this policy click here.
