Orchestra FAQ's

"What I like about orchestra is how we get to play our concerts in front of people and I look forward to coming to orchestra every morning!" -Johanna, violin

Dessert Concert

  • How good do I have to be to join?

You can be at any skill level.  Students who have never played an instrument can start in this orchestra.

  • How often do you play?

We play every day, plus there are several after school rehearsals when we are getting ready for competitions.

  • How many people are in the orchestra?

Right now we have about 35 people in the two orchestras combined.  Most are violins.  We always need more cellos, violas, and basses.

  • How much time am I expected to practice out of school?
On graded practice charts 120 minutes is an A, but it's good to practice every day.
  • Will I have to do any traveling?

The orchestra goes on a trip to an amusement park every year, but other than that, we don't travel.

  • Why should I join orchestra?

Orchestra is fun.  By playing an instrument, you get a skill that is with you your whole life.  It is fun going on the trip and going to all the competitions.
