After teaching at several schools in Pennsylvania and Virginia, she became the
Orchestra Director at
Oakton High School and Franklin Middle School in Fairfax County in 1983. In the six years
that Mrs. Myers was at Oakton, she built the string program from 20 to 65 players. In 1988,
Mrs. Myers was
chosen as Oakton High School's "Teacher of the Year".
Mrs. Myers has served as the String Representative and Secretary of the Virginia Band and
Orchestra Director's Association, as well as President of the Virginia Unit of The American String Teachers
Association. She has guest conducted many regional orchestras and adjudicated throughout the Northern Virginia area.
After spending time at home with her children, Mrs. Myers returned to Franklin as the orchestra director in 1998.
Mrs. Myers says "One of my main goals in orchestra is for all
students, regardless of ability, to meet with a high level of success.
The positive self-esteem and self-expression gained through music carries
over to many other aspects of their lives. Music is for a lifetime,
and I want my students to enjoy, participate in and be supporters of music
for the rest of their lives."
