7TH GRADE INFORMATION

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is an honorary service organization that is nationally recognized.  Students in the seventh grade can work towards induction into the NJHS by fulfilling the following requirements:

  • A 3.5 grade point cumulative average must be earned.  This is calculated at the area office be official transcript.  The calculations will be done for all seventh graders immediately following the third marking period (April 2004).  If a student has achieved a 3.5 GPA for the three quarters at Franklin Middle School, they will receive an invitation to join the NJHS.

  • The second requirement of seventh graders to earn admittance to the NJHS is to exemplify good citizenship and character.  A review of student behavior records will be done before consideration in the NJHS. Students with discipline referrals will not have the opportunity to join.

  • Upon achieving a 3.5 or higher GPA, students will fill out an application requiring a brief essay and parent signatures.  This will be done in early May.

  • The faculty council of the NJHS will review the applications for admittance.

  • Those seventh grade students who earn membership to the NJHS will be inducted in a ceremony to be held in May 2005.

  • New NJHS members will participate in their eighth grade year by earning at least 15 service hours at Franklin Middle School.  They will work from their induction in May 2005 through the end of the third quarter in April 2006, participating in school projects, helping school staff and serving as leaders.  In May 2006, if they have fulfilled the requirements of an eighth grade NJHS member, they will receive their NJHS pin at the pinning ceremony

Requirements to Receive the NJHS Pin

A student must fulfill all requirements in order to receive the NJHS pin at the Spring Pinning Ceremony.

  1. Maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA

GPA will be verified at the end of the third grading period.  Any student who does not have a 3.5 or above GPA at that time will not receive a NJHS pin.  A cumulative average means that all 7th grade grades and the grades for the first 3 quarters of 8th grade will be included.

  2. Complete a minimum of 15 service hours at Franklin Middle School.

Hours at Franklin may be earned by assisting a teacher, working in the office, peer tutoring, or assisting with the PTA, or participating in any of the activities sponsored by NJHS.  The work must be done at Franklin.

Hours completed at Franklin should be turned in to team liaisons as served.  Forms on which to record service hours may be obtained from them as well.  Please turn in your hours as you complete them.  Keep a copy for your records. This avoids problems at the end of the third quarter.  Please turn in ALL hours served, even after you have completed the minimum of 15 hours.  It is the sole responsibility of each member to complete at least 15 service hours.  BE PERSISTENT! Continue to ask teachers if they need help and don't forget the seventh grade teachers!

All students must have a minimum of 5 hours of service completed by the end of the first quarter, 5 more hours by the end of the second quarter and all 15 hours must be done by the end of the third quarter.

Members that do not complete the minimum 15 hours of service will not receive a NJHS pin.

Service Hours Due Date - Last day of third quarter

   3.  Uphold the qualities of Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship.

Any member involved in cheating will be removed from NJHS.

Any member referred to the administration for behavioral misconduct will have membership reviewed by the NJHS Review Committee (Faculty Council).  Review of student discipline will be done at the end of each quarter by the Faculty Council
