DRAMA
Speech and Drama - Theatre Arts
Grade 7 - Semester Course
This course is an introduction to the basic
concepts and skills of oral communication and acting. Students will begin
to develop poise and confidence through the practice of vocal
skills, facial expression and gestures. Each student will practice good
delivery techniques, listening skills, and audience etiquette. This course
helps increase the confidence and skills needed when auditioning for school and
community plays and musicals. At Franklin, we present a full-length
evening production that is open to any student.
Advanced Theatre Arts
Grade 8 - Semester Course
Students will participate in a variety of dramatic activities and
perform for various audiences. This course is designed for those who are interested in an
expanded theatre experience.
During this class the students will develop existing talents and interests through the
following activities: improvisations, theater sports, acting workshops, scene study and
presentation, monologues, technical workshops, daily warm-ups, playwriting, introduction
to Shakespeare, pantomimes, directing practice --- culminating with rehearsals and
performances.
Throughout this exploration, we will strive to develop and demonstrate a sense of
esprit de corps and theatre etiquette as the students work on the stage and behind the
scenes.
