FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Introduction to Foreign Language
Grade 7 - Semester Course

Introduction to Foreign Language (IFL) helps students make an informed choice about future language study and equips them with necessary study skills.  Among languages studied are French, German, and Spanish.  Students learn the culture of the languages studied, simple linguistic structure, and expressions.  They are made aware of how foreign language enriches a person's life and expands career options.

French I / Spanish I
Grade 8 - Full Year

Level I students gain experience in all four areas of language learning:  listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  Students learn to ask questions and give responses, and engage in short conversations.  Grammatical patterns are taught and students are introduced to the geography and social customs of the countries where the target language is spoken.

When taken in grade 8, Foreign Language I will become part of the student's high school record, and is included in determination of the student's high school grade-point average (GPA), and counts as one of the credits required for high school graduation.
******* Please note that this placement decision rests with the principal. ******

*Language I is not recommended for fluent speakers. - An appropriate course for fluent speakers is offered at the high school level.
