EIGHTH GRADE HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Full Year Required

While incorporating many of the skills previously developed at the seventh grade level, the eighth grade curriculum consists of a balance of individual and team sports.  Activities include flag football, ultimate frisbee, floor hockey, weight training, pickleball, volleyball, basketball, dance, softball, track and field, and other recreational activities. 

Health instruction in grade eight includes the following units:  Skills for Health and Wellness; Injury and Violence Prevention; Drug Use Prevention (ATOD); Human Growth and Development; Emotional and Social Health; Nutrition; and Community and Consumer Health.  After a review of all materials in the health curriculum, if desired, parents may opt their children out of part of the program.
