PTA

The Franconia Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is about men and women working together toward a common goal. That goal is creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers and administrators can do their best work—and so can our children. 

The PTA helps Franconia in many different ways.  The past two years, we:

• Aided teachers by providing money to attend conferences and workshops.
• Improved school technology by purchasing three SMART boards for classrooms.
• Purchased new Physical Education equipment.
• Purchased Language Arts Assessment Kits
• Provided children without lunch money a sandwich, so that no one goes hungry.
• Helped to offset transportation costs for field trips.

With budget cuts affecting many areas of our school, we need your support to ensure we can continue providing new technology and supplies to our school. I encourage you to become a PTA member and support our fundraising activities throughout the year.

But that’s not the only reason to take part. There have been more than 500 independent research studies about parent involvement. When parents get involved in their children’s education, grades go up, test scores go up, children become more likely to pass, they have fewer discipline problems, and they’re less likely to use drugs and alcohol.

Volunteering doesn’t mean a huge time commitment. An hour or two a semester makes a big difference. And we have jobs to fit your time schedule and interests. Please fill out the accompanying volunteer form letting us know how you can help.

PTA Job Descriptions for 2009-2010

Franconia Elementary would like to encourage students K-6 to participate in the 2009-10 Reflections Program this year.  Reflections is a self discovery learning program for children that was created by the National PTA in 1969 to encourage millions of students across the nation to explore their artistic talents.  We would love our students to participate again this year by creating an original work of art based on the theme “Beauty Is...”.

Students around the country in preschool through grade 12 participate in the arts areas of literature, dance choreography, film/video production, musical composition, photography, and visual arts.  Our school will be participating in the following age divisions:  PreK through Grade 2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8.  The deadline for Franconia students to submit their reflections entries is October 30, 2009.  Entry forms and rules will be made available on www.fcps.edu/FranconiaES.  If you are interested in your child(ren) participating in this year’s program please contact Shelly Edenhart at sedenhart@scadirect.com or 703-313-7955.
