Intersession Information

Intersessions offer additional learning time in the areas of language arts, math, technology, science, social studies, the arts, and physical education. Intersession classes offer reinforcement and enrichment for Franconia students and are aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning. Intersession classes are offered in the fall, winter, and spring. Participation is optional, but highly recommended for all students!

Each student can sign up for two classes each intersession. Parents may elect to have their child attend only the A.M. or P.M. session. Students can also use the intersession for family time.

    Class Placement
Students must provide a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice for both the a.m. and p.m. sessions. If the child's first choice is full, they will be placed in the next choice that is available.
Some popular classes will be closed after the first day. If we have more students register for a particular class than class size allows, a "lottery" will be held.
Students who turn in their registration form on the first day have a better chance of receiving their first class choice.

    Transportation
Transportation will be provided for students who normally ride the bus. There will be no mid-day bus transportation for any grade level. Parents who choose to send their students to only a morning class are responsible for picking them up at 12:10 (10:50 on Mondays) in the front office and signing them out. If a child is participating in only the afternoon session the parent is responsible for providing transportation for their child to school. The child should arrive at 12:10 for the afternoon session (10:50 on Mondays) and sign in at the front office.

As during the regular school year, if students are to go home with another student, or be picked up by someone else, the office must receive a note from the parents.

    Meals
Breakfast will be served Monday through Friday.
Lunch will be served on Tuesday through Friday.
NO LUNCH ON MONDAY-Students should bring a snack from home.
Ice Cream, Juice, etc. will not be available during the Intersession.
Please take the time to put money on your child's lunch card before intersession! You must write a separate check to Franconia food services for lunch and/or breakfast.

    Cost Elementary Reduced
    Breakfast $1.50 $.30
    Lunch $2.65 $.40

    SACC
School Age Child Care (SACC) will be available for students who are already enrolled in the SACC program. SACC will operate the same as during the regular school day. Please communicate with the SACC director so they know who will be attending intersessions, and who will be taking the time off. Phone #: 703-822-2260
    Attendance
Intersession classes are designed as two-week units. Students are expected to attend for the full two weeks.
    Discipline
Excellent Franconia behavior is expected. Franconia rules and expectations are followed as stated in the Students Responsibilities and Rights handbook. Attending intersession classes is a privilege that is earned and maintained by participating in class, exhibiting appropriate behavior, and doing their best. Students who disrupt the learning process will be referred to Mrs. Hale, Intersession Coordinator. If it becomes necessary, students will be removed from the program. Alternative programs are not available during intersession.

By registering your child for intersession classes you are stating your understanding of the above statement.

If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Tracy Morgan-Hale, Intersession Coordinator, at 703-822-2213 or at Tracy.Morgan@fcps.edu
