Built on land once owned by George Washington, Fort Hunt Elementary School lies cradled in a bend of the Potomac River, surrounded by such neighbors as Mount Vernon, Fort Hunt Park, River Farm, Dyke Marsh, and Huntley Meadows. This culturally rich community expands our campus and our horizons, while it enriches our curriculum.

Fort Hunt Elementary is organized by grade levels (kindergarten through sixth) for core subjects. Students who attend Fort Hunt continue on to Carl Sandburg Middle School and West Potomac High School. Approximately fifty percent of the student population is enrolled in the popular and innovative Spanish partial-immersion program. All students have access to state-of-the-art computers in their classrooms, in the library, and in a modern computer lab staffed by a technology instructor, where the learning of computer and telecommunications skills is integrated with the curriculum. Students are additionally challenged in mathematics, using hands-on Challenge 24 math materials, and in language arts through participation in Word Masters.

We are a Fine Arts Focus school with emphasis on fine arts, choral and instrumental music, dance and drama. Our programs are supported by a Kennedy Center initiative, "Changing Education Through the Arts", as well as by the FCPS Fine Arts Department. We have established partnerships with the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic and the Kennedy Center.

Fort Hunt Elementary is a school in which all children are honored for their diversities, applauded for their accomplishments and prepared for the future. We are recognized as a "Fully Accredited" school by the Virginia Department of Education.

SUMMARY OF OUR MISSION AND GOALS

We will strive to provide every child with a comprehensive, challenging educational program that fosters self-worth. Our program, built upon a solid foundation of basic academic and social skills, interwoven with an enriched curriculum, will enable our children to become responsible and productive citizens.
