Student Laptop Initiative at Forestville
In order to continue to provide for increased access to technology as a tool for learning, we have have begun to allow 4th 5th and 6th grade students to bring personal laptops, netbooks, and tablets to school for instructional use. Participation in this initiative is strictly optional, at the discretion of each family. On this page are permission and information forms for families and resources that students may want to download for use.
Basic Personal Technology Parameters & Expectations:

FCPS requires all device be registered by technology team. Registration will be Wednesday mornings 8-9 a.m. in Cove Computer Lab. Students or parents can bring in for check in. Permission Form

Devices must be clearly labled with Student Name, Teacher Name, and Home Phone

Device will be at school daily

Notebook sleeve (Small portable case for storing/carrying)

Recommendations: Microsoft Office (FCPS parents can get at great price using technology@home )

Students need to be aware that they are responsible for any device(s) they choose to bring to school. When not in use device(s) should be appropriately secured. Devices will remain in locked classrooms when students attend activities outside of the classroom.

Computer use will be at teacher direction/discretion during instruction

Students follow IUP policy signed at start of school year, new IUP will be signed every year.

No email, chat or IM communication during school day unless teacher directed.

Additional suggested software: Photostory, Audacity, Google Earth, Photoscape (see links below)

Internet content filtering will be in effect when students connect to the FCPS Wi-Fi network. However, devices with a 3G/4G mobile access are not protected by our filtering. Parents need to be aware that their child may be accessing internet content without any filtering using their cellular service. No Cellular Service is allowed to be used when at school.

Forvestville ES will not store, support, or troubleshoot student owned devices.
How do we Register Student devices?

Step 1. Download and complete the Required FCPS Laptop permission and information for parents bring this form with the device to school to complete registration of devices. SBTS/TSPEC need to ensure that virus protection is on the computers and that they are connected to FCPS

Step 2: Bring to School for final registration. Please have the device with you and the completed forms above. Thank you.

Discounted Software Prices are available at technology@home which is offered to students, and employees of FCPS. These include MS Office, and Adobe products.
