Headline News @ Floris ES
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SCHOOL NEWSLETTERS
Floris is committed to “going green” and through this effort our school newsletters and various other correspondence will be distributed electronically versus costly publishing on paper. Parents who are signed-up for Keep-in-Touch messages through our school will receive an email message with a secure electronic link that allows them access to the electronic version of the school newsletter. It is important that you set your spam filter to accept messages from FCPSkit@fcps.edu, as well as add this email address to your accepted list of email addresses.
In order to receive electronic Keep-in-Touch messages, parents must create or have an FCPS 24/7 Parent View account and update their emergency contact information to include a valid parent email address, through the “WeCare@School” section of the Parent View account (directions on how to establish a Parent View account).
The decision to move to electronic distribution of our newsletter not only significantly reduces paper, but also ensures more timely delivery of important school information. In the past, we have posted copies of the school newsletters on this website. In an effort to protect the privacy and security of both you and your child(ren), as well as our entire staff, we have discontinued posting copies of the school newsletters on the school website. If you need a paper copy of this monthly publication, please contact Mrs. Cheryl Gaughen in the main office at 703-561-2902.
FLORIS ES ANNOUNCES PARTICIPATION IN "RECYCLE FOR THE STUDENTS" FUNDRAISING PROGRAM
Our school is involved in a new fundraiser which focuses on recycling used ink-jet and toner cartridges found in most computer printers and certain fax and copy machines. For each non-damaged, recyclable and potentially refillable cartridge that we collect, Recycle Ink, LLC will pay our school a small proceed. We need your help by bringing in these cartridges from your homes and even collecting them from your local area businesses!
We feel that this program is a win-win opportunity for us as we are generating discretionary proceeds while helping the environment by sparing our landfills from the non-biodegradable plastics, metals and toxic inks that usually comprise these cartridges.
So, please stop throwing away your ink-jet and toner cartridges. Instead, bring them into school and drop them off in the main office.
For more information about the Recycle for the Students_ program, you can call Recycle Ink at 703.684.9304 or log onto their web site. This program was initiated and is coordinated by Mrs. Judy Hasson (Judith.Hasson@fcps.edu) of Floris Elementary.
SIGN-UP NOW FOR A FCPS 24/7 PARENTVIEW ACCOUNT!
Parents of Floris ES students can now sign-up for their own personal parent account, known as ParentView, through FCPS 24/7. An FCPS 24/7 ParentView account allows parents easy access to their child(ren)'s academic teacher's classroom accounts, as well as the ability to update vital emergency contact information online. After parents request an account, the account must be validated by Floris office staff before the account is activated. When you apply for an account, a “unique key” or verification code will be displayed and emailed to you. You must bring the code to the school’s main office for validation and you will be required to present photo identification. Validation can occur in the Floris main office during regular business hours, Monday-Friday. We encourage all Floris families to sign-up for FCPS ParentView; for detailed directions on how to sign-up for an account. If you have problems or concerns with ParentView, please contact the ParentView Help Desk at 1-866-434-8880. If you've already signed-up and been validated by the school.
