Program Overview
The Falls Church High School Special Education PD/ID (Physical Disabilities/Intellectual Disability) Department provides core classes, elective classes, vocational training, adapted physical education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech/language therapy, employment and transition counseling, and social work services to eligible students. In addition, the department assists students in the general education curriculum with equipment adaptations, curriculum and testing accommodations, and classroom support as needed. Students also have opportunities to participate in supervised work experiences and social events. The academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of all of the students are addressed in this department through the collaboration of teachers, therapists, social workers, technology specialists, community agencies, and transition representatives.
Mission
The mission of the Falls Church High School Special Education PD/ID Department is to instruct and encourage students to seek, access, and employ curriculum accommodations and assistive technology in order to become independent and successful learners.
Vision
The vision of the Falls Church High School PD/ID Department is to increase the following:
- Performance on standardized assessments
- Use of assistive technology to facilitate academic, vocational, and communication goals
- Independent living skills
- Opportunities for necessary coursework and vocational experiences to enhance the transition from high school to post high school
- Positive social experiences to prepare students for various life experiences
