Program Overview
Uniforms:
- All students are required to wear a FCHS PE uniform. The PE uniform consists of a t-shirt, shorts & athletic shoes (flat, closed toe, no heels). If a student does not want to wear the shorts, they may purchase sweatpants from the PE department (FCHS sweatpants). Students may wear their own jacket or sweatshirt over their PE t-shirt during cold days. There are no exceptions or substitutions for the PE uniform.
- Uniforms may be purchased the first week of school during Health/PE/Driver's Education classes.
- Please make all checks payable to FCHS or bring exact change if paying by cash (see packages and prices listed on page attached)
Lockers:
- All students must bring in their own lock to use on the lockers in the locker room.
- There are enough lockers for each student to have their own; no one should share a locker with their friend.
- Long lockers may be used during PE classes only. No locks should remain on the long lockers overnight or they will be removed and items will be placed in the "lost and found". Any locks left on long lockers after 2:05 pm will be cut off.
- STUDENTS ARE NOT TO BRING A CELL PHONE OR iPOD INTO THE GYM OR LOCKER ROOM.
ASSESSMENT AND GRADING POLICY:
Students will be evaluated and assessed in physical education by various methods that include both formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments will be utilized to help the students gauge their level of mastery regarding the skill or content, and should aid the student’s improvement. Summative assessments will be utilized to assess a student’s mastery of a skill or content and will be combined to report final grading for each quarter.
Final Grades are determined using a cumulative average of all four quarters including Physical Education, Health, and Driver Education classes. A culminating activity will be a portion of the 4th quarter grade. Final grades may be based on trends and mastery of learning rather than solely numerical averaging of quarter and final exam grade for the year.
Each physical education activity unit will be graded as follows:
Daily: 40%: Preparedness, daily activities and assessments, individual and dual sports
Fitness: 40%: Lifetime fitness planning, portfolio assignments, and application of VA Wellness Fitness Tests to improve personal fitness, and fitness activities.
Skills/Knowledge: 20 %: Cognitive assessment, skills performance, and homework
Students will be expected to adhere to the Falls Church High School Honor Code at all times.
