FAFSA Fill-In Workshops

Are you interested in Sports Journalism?  If so, the Shirley Povich Sports Journalism Workshop and Jamboree will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013; 9am-4pm @ University of Maryland.  This workshop will provide important learning tools and inspiration to high school and college students interested in sports media.  Students will be instructed on how to find jobs and internships, what it’s like to work for sports teams, newspapers, radio and TV and how to cover a beat or write a column.  To register, please email events@povichcenter.org!

4/27 Medical & Health Professional school Recruitment Event;  Marriott Wardman Park Hotel located in Washington, DC; 9am-1:30pm.  This is open to all high school and college students, parents, and counselors!  This event seeks to increase awareness amongst high school and college students with interest in health care professions.  You’ll learn about pre-med requirements, how to apply for medical school and financial aid and meet recruiters from over 30 top medical schools.   

2013 Medical Futures Program for High School Students is open to all pre-med high school students in VA.  This will be an informative session about preparing to apply for medical school, life after medical school, and an interactive medical student panel.  This event will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013; 4:30pm-6:30pm and dinner will be served. This will take place at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine Inova Campus 3300 Gallows Rd Falls Church, VA.  The fee is $15 for students and $20 for parents.  Registration for this event can be done by sending an e-mail to sarina.luangkhot@inova.org: with your contact information, number of guests and home institution.  See Mrs. Foster for more details.

3/18 Free Money for College Presentation 
This event is for sophomores, juniors and their parents.  Learn how you can find scholarships, tips on how to present you (or your student) in the best light and much, much more.  To register, visit the website www.Collegeaccessfairfax.org.  One $250 Scholarship will be awarded by a drawing of those present.  Event will be held at Centreville High School 6001 Union Mill Rd Clifton, VA 20124.

4/3 George Mason University is hosting annual spring Northern Virginia Regional College Fair

4/5 Hampton University High School Day
Friday, April 5, 2013.  The Metro DC Alumni Chapter is sponsoring a bus trip to include campus activities, step show ticket and bus snacks.  You’ll take a tour of campus, learn about financial aid, see a dorm room, attend the Academic Fair, hear about Greek life, Student Government, and Athletics.  Cost is $75 per person.  See flyer for more details.

We have a lot of wonderful colleges and universities coming to see us; such as James Madison University, Virginia Tech, Johns Hopkins University, and The Catholic University of America; just to name a few.  You must log-in to Blackboard then Family Connection in order to register for a college visit pass.
