Colorful Kaleidoscope of Historic Events

World events of 2004-2006 will long have an impact on our students. They are the new breed that communicates with all parts of the world through chat rooms, email, and text messaging friends. They know that decisions that are being made in our national government, world courts, and local governments will have a bearing of what the future is to be.

National and world events bring a kaleidoscope of life to our classrooms. We see the global interaction of a very diverse world as we view the presidential elections in established and emerging democracies. Nature touches us as we face unending domestic hurricane seasons and the largest natural world disaster in our lifetimes in the Asian tsunami. It is an assortment of images that we work to understand in our classroom.

The Social Studies Department supports student involvement in current events by encouraging students to participate in community volunteering efforts, Model U.N., Young Democrats or Young Republican. Students who are involved in these activities are encouraged to voice their concerns on issues that dominate our world and investigate the many changes that will confront them in years to come.
