Library Policies and Procedures

Student Access

The Fairhill Library is open during school hours for classes, book circulation, small and large group research activities, and pleasure reading.

Classes reguarly visit the library for story time, lessons, and book check-out.

Students are encouraged to visit the library whenever they need new books!

Book Circulation

Kindergarten: 1 Book for 2 weeks
Grades 1-2: 2 Books for 2 weeks and can be renewed.
Grades 3-6: 4 Books for 2 weeks and can be renewed
(or 3 books and 1 magazine)

All students are expected to show care and respect for library materials in order to maintain a circulation privilege. Close to 3,000 books are checked out each month by students and staff.
Virginia Readers Choice

Each year the Fairhill library participates in the Virginia Readers Choice statewide program to promote reading appreciation. Students read or listen to at least 4 books at one level from a selected list of 10 books. The 3 levels are: Primary (1-2), Elementary (3-5), and Middle (6th and up). Those who have met this requirement are eligible to vote for their favorite book in March. School and statewide results are announced in late spring. See VSRA Website for a list of the books.
Book Fair

Fairhill has two book fairs a year. A local book fair company, Bookworm Plantation, provides a selection of quality children’s hardbound and paperback books for students and parents to purchase in order to encourage reading and a love of books. Book fair profits are used to purchase new books and materials for the library.
