When a person is being mean to you...
At our school we learn the lesson of ICE. This stands for Ignore...Calm down....Exit. When a person is being mean and they are NOT willing to talk with you...use ICE. By doing this, you are not giving them what they are looking for...a reaction. If you do give them a reaction, then they will come back for more. If you ICE them, they will find you to be boring and stop.

Please remember, if you try to ICE and the person follows you, does not leave you alone, hurts you, or threatens you...it is time to speak to an adult. [Back to Top]
What is bullying...what to do?
Bullying happens when a person is mean to another peron over and over and over. It is not just a one time thing. In most cases the person who is being the bully has some form of power over the person he/she is bullying. Some forms of bullying are very easy to see (hitting, pushing, kicking, name calling, etc.). Other forms are much more subtle (rumors, lies, anonymous letters, telling friends not to like someone else).

When a student is being teased...he or she should first try to handle it by using ICE. If this does not stop and the teasing continues...we encourage our students to find an adult and immediately let the school know what is happening. [Back to Top]
When a friend is not being nice
When a friend has made you upset...we do not want to ignore that person. When dealing with a person who will listen to you...we want to speak to the person to resolve our problems. So here is what we do....FAST

F - Feeling -- tell the person how you are feeling

A - Action -- tell the person the action (what they did) that made you feel that way

ST - Stop -- tell the person to please stop...or tell them how you would like them to change

FAST will only work if you speak nicely...listen to the other person...and try to find a solution. [Back to Top]
To Tell or Not To Tell
There are two important questions to ask when determining if you should tell the teacher:

1. Is anyone being hurt? Yes= tell teacher No=Talk to the person

2. Is anything dangerousl happening? Yes=tell teacher No=Talk to the person

If you answer No to both...do your best to speak to the person to make it better. If the situation does not get better, then speak to the teacher for assistance.

I have also included the Tattle Tale sign that I use with the students. [Back to Top]
