| SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM |
|
| Fairfax Villa Elementary currently has a center-based program for children with mild retardation. Each self-contained classroom offers a small teacher/pupil ratio and opportunities for individual and small group instruction with specialized materials and a variety of instructional strategies to meet individual student needs.
Additionally, inclusive opportunities, as appropriate, are available in general education classrooms with special education support. Modified instruction in an adapted general education curriculum with a focus on the Aligned Standards of Learning and functional life skills provide a foundation for the program. Community-based instruction outings present opportunities for practice of the basic life skills taught in the classroom. At present, the Villa has three "MR" classrooms, one for Kindergarten and First grade, one for Second and Third grade, and one for Fourth and Fifth grade. |
