Second Quarter Nine Week Plans

Language Arts:
During the second nine weeks, we will read and write stories. The students will learn to retell story events orally and in written format. We will read non-fiction stories and learn how to use non-fiction text. Planning and organizing writing will be focused on, as well as using all the components of the writing process. Students will be expected to use correct punctuation and make writing clear to the reader. The students will also learn to write a friendly letter. We will learn about diversity in the United States through our December oral projects. |
Math:
We will learn to add and subtract one-digit, two-digit, and three-digit numbers. We will focus on how to use various strategies when adding and subtracting. |
Science:
We will begin our extensive unit on Animals and their Habitats. This quarter the students will learn about the lifecycle of crickets, their habitats, and their interdependence on the environment. |
Social Studies:
We will be studying the American Indians (Lakota, Pueblo, and Powhatan). The students will learn about the land, climate, and plant life of the 3 regions (Plains, Southwest, and Eastern Woodlands), and ways that people adapted to their environment. The students will also learn about natural, capital, and human resources, and how they applied to the empire of Mali. |
Health:
During this quarter we will focus on mental health. The lessons will include achieving goals, learning ways to cope with disappointment, and recognizing patterns in life. |
