As an elementary counselor, my primary objective is to assist
students in reaching their potential to become effective learners. My goal is to complement the learning environment in the
classroom by using a child-centered, preventative, and developmental approach. Counseling will be conducted with students
individually and in small groups, when requested by parents and teachers and determined appropriate. This service is short-term,
voluntary, and confidential. Parent notification is given to any extended individual or group counseling. There will also be
monthly classroom guidance lessons focusing on student success. Please do not hesitate to call me at (703) 267-2811 or email me
at Melissa.Freiwald1@fcps.edu with any questions, or if I can be of any service.

or (703) 267-2811. Each pack can be checked out for two weeks.
Topics include: Friendship, Self Esteem, Bulllying, Anger Management, Divorce, Homework/Study Skills.
Parent Packs are "Resources On the Go", or tools to address common childhood concerns. They include books, games,
activities, and suggestions or resources for parents. The benefits of working with these packets include improving communication
between parent and child, quick strategies for parents to help their child, and ways to use children's literature. Children can
make connections with the characters in the books to learn new problem-solving skills and strategies in a non-threatening way.
Topic of the Month—Partnership with Chick-fil-A
As part of our effort to instill good character and citizenship skills in our students, our school is participating in a new
effort. The Chick-fil-A "Core Essentials" program is being conducted school-wide. Each month, a different element of
good character is emphasized. Students exhibiting that element during the month can be rewarded with a free Kids Meal from a
local Chick-fil-A. Visit the Core Essentials web site at www.coreessentials.org for
more details.
Please visit our "Topic of the Month" pages for valuable resources
to help build your child's skills. |
