Palabras Alentadoras
April 18, 2008 from 1-2 p.m. (ET) **Encore Presentation**
for Parents
(Encouraging Words in Spanish)
Order a Tape

Parents and caregivers are a child's first and most important teacher, and, from the day a child is born, he or she is ready to learn. An important part of this early learning stage is language.

This two-part series, aimed at Spanish speaking parents, demonstrates how to teach literacy through rhyming, music, movement, playing, talking, storytelling, and reading.

Educators share information to help parents understand how important their role is in their child's early literacy development and later success in school.

Lenguaje Receptivo y Lenguaje Expresivo
1-1:30 p.m.

This program explains parents’ roles in language development—receptive, expressive, pragmatic; a pediatrician explains brain development; and experts discuss multilingual ability, phonemic awareness, and early intervention strategies.

Cónscientizacion del Lenguaje Impreso y Preparación Escolar
1:30 - 2 p.m.

This program focuses on cognitive skills, print awareness, letter recognition and phonemic awareness. Parents learn the importance of early literacy development, and how to promote literacy through family activities.
