At the Fairfax Network, we work with curriculum specialists in an ongoing effort to develop more educational tools for teachers and their students. While all of the programs listed above have been slated for production, we have several exciting projects that are still in development for the upcoming school year.
First, we are working with teachers on a new series to link learning to life after school. Targeted primarily to middle schoolers, the series will take an inside look at various careers in science, technology, engineering and math and help students understand how their studies and activities can lead to a variety of careers. We hope to premiere the series in November of 2008.
Second, we are working to develop a third installment of the popular Primary Sources series. Widespread feedback indicates that the first two installments, profiling Adventure of the American Mind and the Library of Congress, were extremely valuable in making teachers aware of the various online resources at their disposal. Program three will be an introduction to the National Archives collections, and will likely be distributed in the spring of 2009.
Finally, we will continue to partner with George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens to cover a variety of historical topics. This year we will travel with Mount Vernon’s Education Department to Oklahoma, where we will tape portions of a program on Washington’s American Indian policies. We hope to distribute that program in the spring of 2009.
As always, we stay on the lookout for children’s authors traveling through our area so that we can bring you even more of the award-winning Meet the Author series as opportunities arise.
