UPDATED 05.01.08
Dear Parents,
Graduation is quickly approaching and once again I want to encourage all seniors to maintain a strong academic focus, attend school regularly and follow all guidelines for expected behavior at all times. Mid-year transcripts have already been sent out to colleges and universities, and many of our seniors are beginning to receive acceptance letters. Parents and students should remember that these acceptance letters are conditional, based on a continuing pattern of acceptable academic performance. I strongly encourage you to have a conversation with your son/daughter regarding these issues and continue to monitor their school performance. It is more important than ever to emphasize the importance of making appropriate choices with regard to these issues.

Senior Parent Meeting on May 21st
The first of two parent meetings was held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 7:00 pm in the FHS Multipurpose Room. The 2nd meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 7:00 pm in the FHS Cafeteria. Graduation is rapidly approaching! Please arrange your schedules to attend these meetings for information regarding what your senior should have done, should be doing and will still need to do.
Graduation Scheduled for June 12, 2008 @Noon
This year’s graduation ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 12 Noon in the L. Patrick Laing Field house. Graduation tickets will be distributed on May 27 during all lunch shifts in the Cafeteria. Each student will be issued seven (7) tickets for the ceremony. If there are families that need additional tickets, we encourage you to first “trade-off” with families who may not need all of their issued tickets. If you are unable to secure the required tickets by that method, please contact Jackie Anderson, FHS Registrar, at 703-219-2202 or by e-mail at Jacalyn.Anderson@fcps.edu. Mrs. Anderson will do her best to try to assist you.
If you require accommodations for handicapped guests, including special parking, seating or sign language services for the hearing impaired, please contact Mr. Chris Haddock at 703-219-2239 or via e-mail at Christopher.Haddock@fcps.edu.
With the completion of the FHS renovation project this year, the availability of parking is much improved. However, I am pleased to announce that satellite parking will once again be provided at St. Leo the Great Catholic School which is across from Daniel’s Run Elementary School.
Summer School Registration
Seniors who plan to graduate in August 2008 or seniors who are at-risk of failing a course this year should be aware that summer school registration will open on May 12 and last until June 24 or when a class fills up. Seniors need to be aware that summer school registration is on a first come first serve basis with no preferential treatment given to seniors. Students who are concerned that they may need summer school should speak with their school counselor prior to May 12 to discuss the options. Information about summer school can be found online at: http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/OACE/summer/pdfs/Encore2008.pdf
Caps and Gowns
At this point in time, all seniors should have ordered a cap and gown through our vendor. Seniors must wear an approved cap and gown to participate in the graduation ceremony. If you are not sure if your son/daughter has placed an order, you may contact Herff Jones at 703-594-3982.
Financial Obligations/Class Dues
All senior financial obligations must be paid-in-full before a senior can be cleared to participate in the graduation program. Financial obligations include but are not limited to lost/damaged text books, damaged/lost school equipment, damaged/lost athletic equipment and uniforms, damaged lost band equipment and uniforms, unpaid student parking fines and class dues.
All seniors are required to pay class dues, which are currently $35 per student. Dues will increase to $40 beginning in May 7, so please encourage your senior to take care of this and any other financial obligation that they may have. PLEASE DON’T WAIT TO THE LAST MINUTE!!!
