US/VA History Semester Review Project

Directions: Work with a group to accomplish one of the following tasks. Each group should have three or four members. Only one group will be allowed per topic. Sign-up is first come first served.

973's: Books on American History

Era 1: Three Worlds Meet, Beginning - 1600

Map - draw a map illustrating a major event or development from the period prior to 1600. Your map should be on a poster board and include a key and scale.

Game - Design a board game based on the period prior to 1600. Your game should include major events, people, places, concepts, etc.

 

Era 2: The Colonial Period, 1600-1763

Video - Produce a videotape illustrating a significant incident or event from the period 1600-1763.

Puppet Show - plan and perform a puppet show dramatizing a significant event from the period 1600-1763.

 

Era 3: Establishing a Nation, 1763-1787

Construct a Timeline showing major events from 1763-1787. Your timeline should contain important political, social and cultural developments and illustrations. You may use poster board, Power Point or other visual media. Be creative!

News Broadcast - Plan and produce a "television news" report of major events from the period 1789-1850. Your broadcast should be approximately five minutes long and may be performed live or on videotape.

 

Era 4: The Federal Period, 1787-1815

Front Page - Plan and publish a "front page" for a newspaper from the Federal Period. Your front page should include important individuals, events, developments and ideas.

Talk Show - Interview significant individuals from the period 1787-1815 using a late-night talk show format. Your interview should cover important historical developments of the period and may be performed live or on videotape.

 

Era 5: Growth of the New Republic, 1789-1850

Play - Write and perform a short play about an incident or event you studied from the period 1789-1850. Your script should be typed and submitted.

Jeopardy Review - Plan a "jeopardy" type review for the class on the period 1789-1850. You may use poster board, Power Point or other visual media.

 

Era 6: Conflict and Expansion, 1850-1865

Debate - Stage a debate on a controversial topic from the period 1850-1865. Your debate may be performed live or on videotape. You may choose your own debate format.

Historic Site Photo Essay - Visit a local historic site associated with an important event from the Civil War period, 1850-1865. Make a photo essay using photos, postcards, maps and other materials.
