Student Code of Conduct

All student behavior and conduct is governed by the FCPS Students Responsibilities and Rights (SR&R) document which is available online at: Students Responsibilities and Rights.

All FCPS students receive a Student Rights and Responsibilities update or handbook at the beginning of each school year. The annual SR&R quiz should be taken at a student’s base school. All FCPS discipline policies stated in the SR&R are enforced at Fairfax Academy. Students are subject to Fairfax High School discipline guidelines while on the FHS campus. If there are any discipline problems at the Academy, the Academy Administrator will work with the student’s base school administrator to determine and administer the proper disciplinary response.

Please Note: Students are not permitted to use portable music equipment (iPod’s, etc.) while on the FHS campus. Any exceptions must be requested by the teacher and approved in advance for a specific project or purpose by the Academy Administrator. FCPS policy states that mobile phones must have the power turned off (not just on vibrate) and be out of sight on school grounds and on school buses during the school day. If this rule is violated, as per FCPS policy, the phone will be confiscated and the student’s parent must pick up the phone from the Fairfax High School security office.

Academy students must adhere to the Fairfax High School and FCPS dress code. That policy prohibits wearing hats and other headgear in the building (except for religious reasons). Violations will result in the headgear being confiscated for thirty days. The dress code also requires that midriffs and undergarments be covered at all times (including Dance class and Musical Theatre class).

Lunch

Students who need to eat lunch while at the Academy should talk with the FHS Cafeteria Manager, Ms. Eleanor Sinclair. She is willing to help students who qualify for free and reduced lunch and work individually with Academy students who must get through the lunch line quickly and on to class. Academy teachers have varied individual policies regarding food or beverages in the classroom. Students must check with their teacher before bringing lunch, snacks, or beverages to class. You must wear your Academy ID badge in the lunchroom.
