Professional Photography Studio

2 credit course. One year course offered as Professional Photography Studio 1, with option to continue for second year in Professional Photography Studio 2.

Course Description
Students taking this course use industry-standard professional photography equipment to take photographs in both studio and location settings. Throughout the year, they learn and master the technical skills needed to import, select, manage, create, and showcase their digital images using state-of-the-art-software. Students gain professional experience in a multiplatform studio environment (PC & Mac) by completing commercial projects for Digital Imaging & Graphics Studio (DIGS), a business run through the class. There is an emphasis on professional business practices and portfolio development, so students are prepared for both entry level work and advanced study in photography.

Students successfully completing this course will be proficient in:

• Visual Communication Skills

• Photography or art background
• Computer experience
• Mature, responsible, and self-starter
• To provide additional information, students may present a portfolio.

Instructor's Bio:
Kevin is an experienced commercial photographer, with over 15 years of industry experience and a wide variety of clients. He has completed projects for associations like the Muscular Dystrophy Association and non-profits such as the Center for Policy Alternatives and has photographed a number of well-known political figures including former First Lady Hillary Clinton and the Prince of Jordan. Kevin has an undergraduate degree and graduate coursework in Photography from Virginia Commonwealth University as well as a teaching license for K-12 Art from Shenandoah University. He brings a professional perspective to the class that helps him develop real-world assignments and promote industry expectations and standards. In his spare time, Kevin is an instructor and practitioner of Brazilian JuiJitsu and Mixed Martial Arts.
