2 credit course. One year course offered as Professional Television Production1, with option to continue for second year in Professional Television Production 2. Course DescriptionThe Television Production class and its production company, Digital Wave Productions, trains students to enter the TV and film industries as Production Assistants (PA) in a variety of production roles. Academy students learn through traditional classroom sessions as well as extensive hands-on training using state-of-the-art gear. During the first year, students learn the terminology, theory and skill sets necessary to hold their own with professionals in the industry.
All students will have the opportunity to work with Digital Wave Productions, a video production company run through the classroom. Opportunities through Digital Wave include both paid and volunteer positions where students work with actual clients, gain career experience, and build a professional resume.
The Fairfax Academy production facility is equipped with cutting edge technology. Students will be trained on non-linear AVID systems and full HD cameras.
TV Studio and Production Facility
• 43’ x 43’ three camera studio with cyc, chromakey, and teleprompters
• 12’ x 24’ control room with special effects generator, 20 channels of audio, and a music channel library with over 4,000 cuts of background music
• 14 SD and HD portable digital recording systems. Each system includes camera, monitor, tripod, mics, and light kit.
• 11 top of the line AVID media composer non-linear editors
CareersCareers are available in all three areas of film and video production: pre-production, production, and post-production. They run the gamut from writing and producing (pre-production); actual production work; to editing, promotion and distribution (post- production). Career opportunities exist in commercial television and public television, cable access channels, news channels, and special interest channels --- as well as in private industry. Because the industry is very competitive, experience and a post-secondary education are critical for success.
