The Track / Cross Country
Program here at Edison is geared towards the Student Athletes interested
in self improvement. This sport is two dimensional, it has an individual
component were athletes learn to push them selves to their limits,
and a team component were athletes learn to work as a group and see
the benefits of everyone working towards a common goal.
Who should Join the team?
Anyone is eligible to join the team. You do not need previous experience
in the sport to participate. The coaching staff is prepared to teach the
basics or to improve on previous experience. We are looking for student
athletes that are willing to commit 100% to the sport, in the classroom,
practice and on the track.
What do you need?
Before a student athlete can practice and compete for the
team you need to have the following:
• A current VHSL
Physical (Students will need a new physical every school year)
• An Emergency
Care Card (one must be turned in to the head coach of the sport you
are going out for)
• Be in good academic standing
• Have time to fully commit to the program
• Good pair of RUNNING shoes
• Practice clothes (come prepared for the weather, we will practice
outside 99.9% of the time)
Advantages to Participating in this Sport:
• Student Athlete will elevate their level of Fitness
and Performance
• Cross Country / Track & Field are good for in between season
training or for general conditioning before a season
• Student Athletes will compete against a diverse group of athletes
from the County, Region, and the State
• The different types of events makes it easy to find a niche for
ALL participating Athletes
• Periodic grade checks keep coaches informed of the athlete’s
progress in the classroom
• Team has a very transparent line between Varsity, JV, and Freshman,
all skill levels will practice together and compete
• The track team has at their disposal study hall complete with
a fully functional computer lab
• Colleges that the team will travel to include; Virginia Tech,
William and Mary, U. PENN, North Carolina A&T
