Where is the Writing Center?

We will be in Rm. 243.

Who are the EWC Tutors?
Our first cohort of 30 Edison High School student tutors was chosen for the students’ demonstrated excellence in the classroom as well as their dedication to helping fellow EHS students. Nominated by teachers, then selected through a rigorous application process, these student tutors demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Academic. Consistently strong writers for assignments in all subject areas
  • Personable. Work well with other students
  • Confident. Take leadership roles in class
  • Dependable. Voluntarily gives time to tutor others in the EWC.
  • Invested. Goes above and beyond in own school work.

How does the process work?
1. Make an appointment. Sign your name next to a 20-minute time slot for the tutor you would like to meet with. It may be a good idea to consult the Tutor Biography Binder to find a tutor who has specific expertise with the teacher, class, or assignment you are working on!

2. Bring the necessary materials. Your tutor will best be able to help you if you have:

a. The assignment sheet

b. The grading rubric

c. Your draft

3. Fill out the cover sheet.  These are available next to where you sign up, or if you forgot to pick one up when you made your appointment, please fill one out while you wait!

4. Conference. This is where you will meet one-on-one with a tutor for 20 minutes. He/she will work with you on the priorities you indicated on your cover sheet, and will give you feedback as to how to make your writing better, specifically for this assignment and for the intended audience.

5. Get the stamp! The EWC stamp proves you came for help.Spend some more time on your paper at home.

6. Turn in the paper.
