Hospitality Management Course Description
The Hospitality Management Program is a two credit program that gives students the opportunity to learn the hospitality industry through on-site, hands on training. Students work with the staff members of the Hilton Springfield, Hampton Inn Springfield and Comfort Inn Springfield. Through shadowing and internship work, students accumulate 140 hours of training in four departments. These experiences help to build each student's resume. Classroom activities focus on hotel operations and marketing. Guest speakers include hotel and corporate level managers, marketing experts and meeting planners.
Students are required to meet corporate standards in appearance and in actions as they participate in a variety of activities beyond the classroom. This includes the hotel site training and attending professional industry activities. An annual trip allows students to experience the resort aspects of the industry and to see the travel partners in action.
Hospitality students become members of DECA, An Association of Marketing Students, which provides opportunities in leadership, competition and community service.

Dwannel McGahee , Instructor
Mr. McGahee has been affiliated with Fairfax County Public Schools for the past 5 years. He began his career as a hospitality management instructor at Chantilly High School. Prior to joining FCPS, Mr. McGahee spent 16 years working in the hospitality industry, starting out entry-level as a bellman and progressing to become a director of human resources. A native of Alabama, Mr. McGahee received his Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations from Florida A&M University and his Master of Arts Degree in Human Resource Management from Marymount University. He also owns an on-line travel business.
